La Luz de Jesus Gallery: Jennifer Logan and Myron Dyal

Myron Conan Dyal & Jennifer Logan:

CHARON’S PANTHEON
Exhibition opens Friday, February 4th @ 8PM

The new artist lecture series continues at La Luz de Jesus
Saturday, February 5th, 7-11 PM and each following Saturday 6-9PM.

Friday, Feb. 4  we open an exhibition that is sure to be the talk of the town for a good, long time. This is one of those shows that years from now people who didn’t attend will lie about and say they did. This presentation may change the perception of sculpture as a figurative medium and is already carrying museum-level buzz. What could this be, you ask?: Charon’s Pantheon.

Myron Conan Dyal has exhibited at Otis, Grand Central Art Center, and Billy Shire Fine Arts. His medium is papier mache coated in acrylic paint. He is an educated artist from the visionary tradition, who was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy after a lifetime of hallucinatory seizures. Charon has been his guardian throughout these episodes, and the goddesses in his pantheon represent a modern mythology -one with no prescribed dogma.

While developing the concepts for this show, composer and friend Dr. Jennifer Logan developed an aural counterpart for Myron’s creations. Each composition is an harmonic and transcendental representative of each goddess within the pantheon. There is a magic restored in these drawings, in these statues, and in these soundscapes that is otherwise absent from the world. The tangible weight of the materials and the gradual minimalism of the compositions are diametrically opposed to the relative gravity of the pieces combined.

Kris Kuksi Book Release Party at La Luz de Jesus Gallery this Friday

Kris Kuksi Book Release party!
Friday, January 21, 2011; 6-9 PM
NORTH AMERICAN DEBUT!

Kris Kuksi‘s sculptures, rendered in immaculate detail, evoke a grandeur reminiscent of the Baroque era. Kuksi successfully merges this sumptuous echo of the past with a satirical and critical commentary of our modern industrial world. These finely crafted sculptures employ images of Gods and Goddesses from past and present mythologies and examine religious belief and iconography. Despite the frequent portrayal of corruption, violence, chaos and degeneration, the works in this book challenge aspects of our beliefs and question whether or not humans have the ability to improve the world’s prosperity. The creation of these sculptures spans the last five years and embodies Kuksi’s personal view of our turbulent world. These beautiful assemblages grace the walls of galleries and museums throughout the world and are displayed in the homes of numerous celebrities. This stunning volume allows those who couldn’t attend the Art of the Lowbrow Tarot exhibition to appreciate these artworks in exquisite detail for the first time.

Consider this an extra reason to checkout the best attended exhibition of the year, which includes:

Charles Binger‘s posthumous debut, Steven Daily‘s mystical knock-out, Covenant,

Howard Hallis‘ thirteen-years-in-the-making, The Picture of Everything, and Tammi Otis‘ gold-leafed fever-dream, A Fertile Madness.
