Los Feliz Traffic Alert!

Major Emergency Road-Work on Los Feliz Boulevard
Crews will begin a major road project at the intersection of Los Feliz Boulevard and Riverside Drive on Monday November 7th to perform emergency roadway stabilization. Tunnelling in the area for the River Supply Conduit Project has resulted in the ground sinking underneath the major intersection around a newly-installed water pipe. Crews will drill hundreds of holes in the pavement and inject grouting to shore-up the ground around the pipe. Work begins on the park-side on Crystal Springs Drive, but will eventually move out onto Los Feliz Boulevard until the sinkage has been mitigated. The work is expected to continue in the area through December 21st.

Artists, Artisans and a Good Cause Sat. April 23

Artists and Artisans of Los Angeles open the gates to Art Villa LA on Saturday April 23  just east of Vermont at 4652 Hollywood Blvd. from 5-10pm

Stroll the streets of Los Feliz in search of your favorite fare, choice of entertainment, or play it the other way around and make the Villa your last stop.  Either way, you’ll enjoy the neighborhood while supporting a great cause.

Villa artists will be there to entice you with aesthetic creations from 5 – 10 pm. You can also enjoy live music and there are other surprises planned, for children, too. Villa gates will open for the first time on the 23rd of April and again on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of May and the 2nd Saturday of June.

Teddy Chambers, executive director of Art Villa LA, decided it was time to bring the artisans of LA to the Los Feliz Village so they can add their creativity to the Los Feliz experience. With support from a prominent property owner donating the space, she has worked for the last several months to bring Art Villa LA to our community, and we anticipate its opening.

Ms. Chambers hopes Art Villa LA will offer a unique, family-friendly experience.  Some of what you find may come as a surprise, but not if you know that Ms. Chambers loves color, creativity and fun (especially clowns) Visit www.itsfuntobeme.org to learn more about her long career helping people that has earned her presidential recognition by the last two administrations.

She also loves children and has been on a quest for more than 20 years to help them avoid the trap of drugs, because addiction robs kids of color, creativity and fun.  For this reason, the purpose of Art Villa LA is to provide funding for the Stronger Families Through Drug Prevention. This is a 6-hour workshop that changes lives delivered exclusively by Narconon® Professional Drug Prevention. Visitors will have an opportunity to find out more about Art Villa LA’s Mission when they come to the Villa. We welcome the support of all Los Feliz business enterprises. Tax deductible donations can be made via itsfuntobeme.org, or by checks payable to  Life Improvement from Education. Please contact us at artvillala@gmail.com.

Extra! Extra! Get your Los Feliz Ledger!

www.losfelizledger.com

The area of Los Feliz, Silver Lake and the Hollywood Hills is a growing, dynamic, eclectic slice of Los Angeles with enough issues and interesting people, places and stories to tell that we felt it deserved its own newspaper.

Since the successful launch of the Los Feliz Ledger in 2005, we have caught on with local residents and business leaders as the source for area information, news and guidance for goods and services.

Currently, we distribute 34,500 copies to homes and business on the last Thursday of each month. Research shows there is a “pass-a-long” factor of three times that amount, as the newspaper is passed from reader to reader in a household or business. For Ledger advertisers, that represents 100,000 potential readers each month.

Not only do we deliver these potential new customers, but we bring to you active and community-minded customers. Readers have told us time and time again they support the paper’s advertisers as a way of demonstrating their own commitment to community.

Whether it’s helping local readers understand how complex city, county, state or nationwide issues affect them, or a story about the first “Princess of Silver Lake,” or a local firefighter receiving a commendation for heroism, the Ledger, as one reader put it, is “a great big, small-town newspaper.”

La Luz De Jesus Art Opening March 4

Everything But the Kitsch ‘N Sync”
Volume XXIV

March 4 – March 27, 2011
Opening Reception

8:00-11:00 pm

4633 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90027

E-mail us at info@laluzdejesus.com

La Luz De Jesus Gallery proudly presents our 14th annual juried group exhibition, “Everything But the Kitschen Sync“. This gigantic, no-theme exhibition features work from some of the freshest and most relevant artists working today. We invited commercial illustrators, graphic designers, tattooists, scenic painters, students, and animators to submit, and we sorted through tens of thousands of submissions before finalizing the list below. The show includes artists we have previously exhibited, who consistently produce some of the most interesting paintings and sculptures in pop contemporary, as well as a large selection of work from a brand new batch of undiscovered, underground talent. Since opening our doors in 1986, the focus has always been to grant exposure to emerging talent while continuing to showcase our established stars, and that aesthetic remains more true than ever before this year. In fact, we have the highest concentration we’ve ever had of artists making their art gallery debuts in this exhibition. Add to that a wide percentage of professionals making their Los Angeles and North American debuts, and that makes this an exhibition you really can’t afford to miss. This is a wonderful forum for us and our public to get the first glimpse of tomorrow’s stars. It is also an incredible opportunity for art collectors to peruse close to 250 pieces of juried artwork by nearly 125 artists all in one viewing, and obtain undiscovered art at undiscovered prices. Please join us for our lucky thirteenth as we continue to support the latest and most original efforts from the nation’s alternative art scene
