Artists and Artisans of Los Angeles open the gates to Art Villa LA on Saturday April 23 just east of Vermont at 4652 Hollywood Blvd. from 5-10pm
Stroll the streets of Los Feliz in search of your favorite fare, choice of entertainment, or play it the other way around and make the Villa your last stop. Either way, you’ll enjoy the neighborhood while supporting a great cause.
Villa artists will be there to entice you with aesthetic creations from 5 – 10 pm. You can also enjoy live music and there are other surprises planned, for children, too.
Villa gates will open for the first time on the 23rd of April and again on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of May and the 2nd Saturday of June.
Teddy Chambers, executive director of Art Villa LA, decided it was time to bring the artisans of LA to the Los Feliz Village so they can add their creativity to the Los Feliz experience. With support from a prominent property owner donating the space, she has worked for the last several months to bring Art Villa LA to our community, and we anticipate its opening.
Ms. Chambers hopes Art Villa LA will offer a unique, family-friendly experience. Some of what you find may come as a surprise, but not if you know that Ms. Chambers loves color, creativity and fun (especially clowns) Visit www.itsfuntobeme.org to learn more about her long career helping people that has earned her presidential recognition by the last two administrations.
She also loves children and has been on a quest for more than 20 years to help them avoid the trap of drugs, because addiction robs kids of color, creativity and fun. For this reason, the purpose of Art Villa LA is to provide funding for the Stronger Families Through Drug Prevention. This is a 6-hour workshop that changes lives delivered exclusively by Narconon® Professional Drug Prevention. Visitors will have an opportunity to find out more about Art Villa LA’s Mission when they come to the Villa. We welcome the support of all Los Feliz business enterprises. Tax deductible donations can be made via itsfuntobeme.org, or by checks payable to Life Improvement from Education. Please contact us at artvillala@gmail.com.
Myron Conan Dyal & Jennifer Logan:
CHARON’S PANTHEON
Exhibition opens Friday, February 4th @ 8PM
The new artist lecture series continues at La Luz de Jesus
Saturday, February 5th, 7-11 PM and each following Saturday 6-9PM.
Friday, Feb. 4 we open an exhibition that is sure to be the talk of the town for a good, long time. This is one of those shows that years from now people who didn’t attend will lie about and say they did. This presentation may change the perception of sculpture as a figurative medium and is already carrying museum-level buzz. What could this be, you ask?: Charon’s Pantheon.
Myron Conan Dyal has exhibited at Otis, Grand Central Art Center, and Billy Shire Fine Arts. His medium is papier mache coated in acrylic paint. He is an educated artist from the visionary tradition, who was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy after a lifetime of hallucinatory seizures. Charon has been his guardian throughout these episodes, and the goddesses in his pantheon represent a modern mythology -one with no prescribed dogma.
While developing the concepts for this show, composer and friend Dr. Jennifer Logan developed an aural counterpart for Myron’s creations. Each composition is an harmonic and transcendental representative of each goddess within the pantheon. There is a magic restored in these drawings, in these statues, and in these soundscapes that is otherwise absent from the world. The tangible weight of the materials and the gradual minimalism of the compositions are diametrically opposed to the relative gravity of the pieces combined.

Kris Kuksi Book Release party!
Friday, January 21, 2011; 6-9 PM
NORTH AMERICAN DEBUT!
Kris Kuksi‘s sculptures, rendered in immaculate detail, evoke a grandeur reminiscent of the Baroque era. Kuksi successfully merges this sumptuous echo of the past with a satirical and critical commentary of our modern industrial world. These finely crafted sculptures employ images of Gods and Goddesses from past and present mythologies and examine religious belief and iconography. Despite the frequent portrayal of corruption, violence, chaos and degeneration, the works in this book challenge aspects of our beliefs and question whether or not humans have the ability to improve the world’s prosperity. The creation of these sculptures spans the last five years and embodies Kuksi’s personal view of our turbulent world. These beautiful assemblages grace the walls of galleries and museums throughout the world and are displayed in the homes of numerous celebrities. This stunning volume allows those who couldn’t attend the Art of the Lowbrow Tarot exhibition to appreciate these artworks in exquisite detail for the first time.
Consider this an extra reason to checkout the best attended exhibition of the year, which includes:
Charles Binger‘s posthumous debut, Steven Daily‘s mystical knock-out, Covenant,
Howard Hallis‘ thirteen-years-in-the-making, The Picture of Everything, and Tammi Otis‘ gold-leafed fever-dream, A Fertile Madness.
